DAKOTA AT THE ROOSEVELT HOTEL
A Classic Steak and Chop House with a Modern Twist
Fresh from the success of their latest Hollywood opening, Meson G, Tim and Liza Goodell are transforming the dining experience once again in the legendary/recently renovated Roosevelt Hotel with their new restaurant, Dakota. Located adjacent to the hotel’s historic lobby, Dakota is a three meal restaurant that will no doubt become Hollywood’s hottest new room.
“We love the idea of creating truly great hotel restaurants that surprise the hotel guests and become a destination for locals,” explains Tim Goodell. “We’ve been looking to create a great American steak/chop restaurant for years, but finding the right location was paramount. When we saw the space at the Roosevelt, we knew it was the right place—it’s the one of only a few truly significant and historic hotels in the city.”
“We’re going to source the best ingredients and showcase the food in a bold and innovative manner,” notes Goodell. “The goal is to work with the seasons and capture the varied flavors. I’m thrilled that we have this opportunity to open the restaurant in the heart of old Hollywood…Dakota provides a modern take on the traditional steakhouse in a fun, hip and sophisticated restaurant setting.”
Designed by Dodd Mitchell, Dakota integrates the historic architecture of the famed hotel with those of a stylish, sophisticated modern steakhouse. Upon entering from a grand staircase or via the hotel lobby, guests are met by a palatte of warm chocolate browns, ambient lighting and gorgeous leather and suede banquettes. With towering high ceilings rich in architecture beckoning to Hollywood’s golden era, Dakota provides the perfect balance between old and new. The bar, located within the main dining room provides for a sexy and intimate setting, and the restaurant is visually and literally linked to the new bustling lobby bar for the Roosevelt Hotel.
The menu is be classic in nature but is definitely reflective of Armstrong’s sophisticated palate and features his adaptation of the American steakhouse. The menu offers such classic starters as a Pear & Prosciutto Salad, Maryland Crabcakes and a Fritto Misto, while dinner is straightforward and timeless, featuring a 14oz Filet (Bone In), 14oz New York, Cote ‘DBoeuf For Two, Kurobuta Pork Chop, Colorado Lamb Chop and a 12oz Veal Chop along with such entrée’s as a Scottish Salmon, Turbot Fillets and a Kobe Beef Burger to name just a few. Additionally, Armstrong and Greenberg will be creating their own sauces, including homemade barbeque, whole grain mustard and chili.
Unlike the Goodell’s other restaurants, Dakota is a three-meal restaurant with breakfast and lunch served daily. By day, the room is filled with sunlight and is the perfect spot for the new Hollywood “Power Breakfast.” Some of the items to be found on the breakfast menu include: Brioche French Toast, “Steel Cut” Oatmeal and Classic Eggs Benedict. Lunch features traditional sandwiches and salads, as well as Parma Ham Panini, Truffle Mac & Cheese and a Chopped Kobe Beef Burger. “We’re so excited to have the chance to design and create menus for all aspects of the hotel,” explains Liza Goodell. “It’s a fun challenge, and we are going to not only goin to make sure Dakota is a great restaurant, but we are going to make certain that the hotel has the best room service in the country.”
With Dakota, and most recently Meson G, the Goodell’s and their Domaine Restaurant Group are servicing notice that there is no food style that they cannot command. Dakota at the Roosevelt Hotel joins their other nationally acclaimed restaurants Aubergine in Newport Beach, Troquet at South Coast Plaza, Red Pearl Kitchen in Huntington Beach and The Village Bakery at The Camp
